Recently, the Monroe Police Department has investigated complaints of citizens receiving telephone calls from people who identified themselves as police officers. The citizens would then be informed they needed to pay fines or face punishment for crimes they were accused of committing.
The Monroe Police Department would like to inform the public that at no time will a law enforcement agency demand money to be paid over the phone. Also, please do not provide any personal information to anyone posing as a law enforcement officer on the telephone.
If you receive one of these types of calls, please do not provide the caller with any bank account/credit card information or any personal information regarding your identity.
