CITY OF MONROE, LA
MAKE AN EXTRA DUTY OFFICER REQUEST
The Monroe Police Department (MPD) permits sworn officers to work special assignments, referred to as extra-duty, for private individuals or organizations requiring security services. These assignments are intended to enhance public safety, maintain order, and enforce applicable state and local laws. Extra-duty services are not provided for the enforcement of private company policies or internal procedures.
To ensure adequate staffing and safety, MPD requires a minimum of one (1) officer per fifty (50) event attendees. Additionally, a minimum of two (2) officers must be present at any event where alcohol is served or consumed. The Department reserves the right to require additional officers based on safety considerations. Factors influencing staffing decisions include, but are not limited to, anticipated attendance, age demographics, presence of alcohol, event duration and timing, type of entertainment, and the size and layout of the event area.
Compensation for extra-duty assignments is set at a rate of $40.00 per hour for events where alcohol is not present and $45.00 per hour for events where alcohol is present. A minimum of three (3) hours of pay per officer is required for all assignments.
All extra-duty assignments must receive prior approval from Chief Victor Zordan. The Monroe Police Department reserves the right to deny any request. Participation in extra-duty assignments is strictly voluntary; therefore, if officers do not volunteer for a requested assignment, MPD may be unable to fulfill the request.
While working extra-duty assignments, MPD officers remain bound by all departmental policies and procedures and will act at all times in the best interests of the City of Monroe, the Monroe Police Department, and Chief Victor Zordan.
